Why the 1932-D and 1932-S Quarters Are Collector’s Gold.

When it comes to valuable U.S. quarters, few coins are as sought after as the 1932-D and 1932-S Washington Quarters. These two rare coins, minted during the Great Depression, have become collector’s gold, often selling for tens of thousands of dollars

The Washington Quarter series debuted in 1932 to commemorate the 200th birthday of George Washington

While the U.S. Mint initially planned this to be a one-year commemorative coin, the design was so well-received that it became a permanent fixture of American currency.

Both the Denver (‘D’) and San Francisco (‘S’) Mints produced far fewer quarters than the Philadelphia Mint that year. Here’s why they’re so rare:

1932-D Washington Quarter – Only 436,800 were minted, making it one of the lowest-mintage quarters in history.

1932-S Washington Quarter – Slightly more common, but still rare, with a mintage of 408,000. These numbers are exceptionally low compared to modern quarter production, which often exceeds hundreds of millions per year.

A 1932-D quarter in good condition can fetch $1,000+, while a mint-condition version can soar past $25,000

The 1932-S quarter is also highly valuable, with high-grade specimens selling for $10,000 or more
