How to Make Flavorful Homemade Veggie Burgers: Black Beans, Lentils, and Quinoa as Your Perfect Meatless Base.

If you're looking to enjoy a delicious, meatless burger that’s packed with flavor and nutrients, veggie burgers made from black beans, lentils, or quinoa are the perfect option. These plant-based ingredients provide a hearty, satisfying texture and are rich in protein and fiber.

Ingredients (for 4 patties): – 1 cup cooked black beans (or lentils/quinoa) – 1/4 cup breadcrumbs (use gluten-free if needed) – 1/4 cup grated carrot (optional, for extra crunch) – 1/4 cup finely chopped onion

– 2 cloves garlic, minced – 1 tsp ground cumin – 1 tsp smoked paprika – Salt and pepper to taste – 1 egg (or flax egg for vegan option) – 1 tbsp olive oil (for frying)

Prepare the Base: Start by mashing the black beans (or lentils/quinoa) in a large bowl using a fork or potato masher. You want a mix of mashed and slightly whole beans for texture.

Add the Vegetables: Add grated carrot, chopped onion, and minced garlic to the mashed beans. The carrots add sweetness and crunch, while the onions and garlic contribute a savory depth of flavor.

Season: Stir in the cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. These spices will give the veggie burgers a smoky, flavorful kick. Bind the Mixture: Add the egg and breadcrumbs to help bind the mixture. Mix everything until it comes together. If it feels too wet, add more breadcrumbs until the mixture holds its shape.

Form the Patties: Shape the mixture into 4 patties, pressing firmly to hold together. Cook the Burgers: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes per side, until they’re golden brown and crispy on the outside.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve the veggie patties on a bun with your favorite toppings—lettuce, tomato, avocado, or a dollop of hummus or vegan mayo!
