How to Dry Citrus: A Flavorful & Creative Way to Preserve Fruit.

Drying citrus is a fantastic and easy way to preserve the fruit's vibrant flavor while extending its shelf life.

This method works for a variety of citrus fruits, including oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits, and can be used in numerous ways, from snacking to decoration.

To begin, select fresh, ripe citrus fruits and wash them thoroughly. Cut the fruits into thin slices, about 1/8 to 1/4 inch thick.

The thinner the slices, the quicker and more evenly they will dry. If you prefer, you can also remove the seeds for a cleaner result.

Oven Drying: Preheat your oven to the lowest setting, usually around 150°F (65°C). Place the citrus slices in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 4 to 6 hours, flipping the slices occasionally until they are completely dry.

Dehydrator: If you have a food dehydrator, this is the easiest method. Set the dehydrator to 135°F (57°C) and arrange the citrus slices on the trays. Dry for 8 to 12 hours, checking periodically for dryness.

Air Drying: For a more natural approach, you can air dry citrus in a warm, dry place. This method may take several days but requires no equipment.

Once your citrus is dried, store it in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. Dried citrus is perfect for use in teas, cocktails, or as a vibrant garnish for dishes and desserts.
