Dehydrate Your Citrus the Right Way for Maximum Flavor and Fun!
Drying citrus fruits is a fantastic way to preserve their flavor and enjoy them long after their peak season.
Whether you're using them for snacks, drinks, or decor, dehydrated citrus is versatile and easy to make at home. Here's how to dehydrate your citrus the right way for maximum flavor and fun!
Choose Your CitrusStart with fresh, ripe citrus fruits. Oranges, lemons, limes, and grapefruits all work well. Choose fruits that are firm with no blemishes for the best results.
Prepare the FruitWash your citrus thoroughly. Slice the fruits into thin, even slices about 1/4-inch thick. The thinner the slices, the quicker and more evenly they will dry.
Drying MethodThere are three popular methods for drying citrus:1. Dehydrator: Place the citrus slices on dehydrator trays and set the temperature to 135°F (57°C). Dry for 8-10 hours or until completely crisp.
Oven: Preheat your oven to the lowest setting, usually around 170°F (77°C). Arrange the slices on a baking sheet and bake for 4-6 hours, flipping halfway through.
Air Drying: If you live in a dry, warm climate, you can hang the slices on a string or lay them on a rack. This method may take several days.
StorageOnce fully dried, store your citrus slices in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. Enjoy them in your drinks, snacks, or even as a creative addition to potpourri or holiday crafts!
