What started as a fun birthday celebration for Christy Carlson Romano’s husband quickly turned into a near-tragic event.
The former Even Stevens star was enjoying a day of clay pigeon shooting when an unexpected misfire from another group struck her in the face, leaving her with multiple injuries—including a bullet fragment dangerously close to her right eye.
Romano and her husband, Brendan Rooney, were at a Texas shooting range when another participant "unsafely fired in the wrong direction," sending metal fragments flying toward her.
Despite the chaos, Rooney acted quickly, rushing her to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center for emergency care.
Doctors determined that one fragment was too close to her eye for removal, meaning Romano must now live with it embedded under her skin.
Ironically, Romano had just proven her physical and mental toughness on Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, where she outlasted elite athletes and celebrities in grueling military-style challenges.
Romano has since reflected on the accident, sharing a heartfelt message about the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing loved ones.
Her experience also highlights the need for strict firearm safety, reminding both professionals and beginners that one careless mistake can have lasting consequences.
