1964 Kennedy Half Dollar Proof : A Collector’s Guide.

The 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar was the first year of issue for the coin, created to honor the recently assassinated President John F. Kennedy.

Following his death in November 1963, the U.S. Mint quickly designed and struck this coin as a tribute to Kennedy, making it a historically significant piece.

The reverse displays the presidential seal, with an eagle holding a bundle of arrows and an olive branch, designed by Frank Gasparro, the Mint’s Chief Engraver.

The proof version, which was struck specifically for collectors, had a mintage of just 3,950,762 coins. Proof coins are struck with specially polished dies, giving them a mirror-like finish and sharp details.

The 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar is made from 90% silver and 10% copper, giving it a weight of 12.5 grams

The 1964 proof coins are typically graded on a scale from PR-60 to PR-70, with PR-70 being the highest grade indicating a perfect coin with no imperfections. Coins in PR-65 or higher are most sought after by collectors.

Circulated 1964 Kennedy Half Dollars are valued mainly based on their silver content. These coins can be worth around $12 to $20 or more, depending on the current market price of silver.

The 1964 Kennedy Half Dollar Proof is rare compared to regular circulation coins, and its demand is high among collectors due to its historical significance.
