1940 Jefferson Nickel : A Collector’s Guide.

The 1940 Jefferson Nickel is an important coin in the history of American numismatics. As part of the long-running Jefferson Nickel series, it features the iconic design that has endured for decades.

The coin’s obverse (front) features a portrait of Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States.

This design was created by artist Felix Schlag and has been a staple of the Jefferson Nickel series since its introduction in 1938.

The reverse (back) shows an image of Monticello, Jefferson's Virginia home. The building’s design was also created by Felix Schlag, and it has been part of the coin's design for the duration of the series.

Philadelphia (No Mintmark): The standard coin minted in Philadelphia carries no mintmark. This is the most common variety of the 1940 Jefferson Nickel.

There are no major varieties in the 1940 Jefferson Nickel, but subtle differences in the strike or surface quality may appear across the various mintmarks.

While the 1940 Jefferson Nickel is not as rare as some of the other nickels in the series, certain high-grade or uncirculated versions can carry a premium price.

Its design, which has become iconic over the years, along with its availability in multiple mintmarks, makes it an appealing choice for both novice and advanced collectors.
